CRA Loan Officer

Job Overview

The CRA Loan Specialist is responsible for originating residential first mortgage loans, with a primary focus on CRA products and services targeted to low- to moderate-income individuals, neighborhoods, and nonprofit organizations. This role manages the loan process from application through closing and ensures compliance with regulatory and risk requirements, while consistently delivering a positive customer experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop CRA prospects and referral networks (realtors, builders, nonprofit organizations, personal and professional contacts).

• Conduct and coordinate homebuyer training seminars for CRA applicants.

• Originate mortgage loans, including completing Fannie Mae Form 1003 applications.

• Maintain knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting, processing, and closing procedures.

• Handle employee loan programs and represent Fifth Third at promotional events.

• Collect required documentation and submit loan packages within deadlines.

• Manage loan pipeline through closing, ensuring timely and accurate communication with applicants and referral partners.

• Provide applicants with status updates and progress reports.

• Escalate exceptions following established protocols.

• Attend required Consumer Lending meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

• Minimum 2 years of mortgage lending experience.

• Knowledge of conventional/government lending guidelines and federal real estate lending regulations.

• Familiarity with residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing.

• Established referral network with at least $1M in monthly mortgage sales.

• SAFE Act registration required (NMLS licensing).

• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

• Proven computer proficiency and sales techniques.

• Strong customer service orientation with ability to thrive in a competitive environment.
