Fraud Program Leader – Digital Assets

Job Overview

The Fraud Program Leader II leads fraud initiatives focused on identifying and defining fraud operations and system needs tied to digital assets and crypto-related transactions. This role serves as the primary liaison between vendors, lines of business, operational support, and IT.

The position requires developing a strong knowledge base of business plans, products, and processes while driving effective fraud risk management. The leader applies thought leadership, change management strategies, and strategic alignment to ensure oversight and support for fraud prevention initiatives, while anticipating and leading change with agility.

This role is accountable for managing risks by fostering open communication, escalating issues as needed, following policies, and ensuring actions drive a positive customer experience within the Bank’s risk appetite.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop, strengthen, and implement fraud-related policies, procedures, and processes across departments.

• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and governance requirements.

• Partner with senior leadership to set and execute strategic fraud risk goals.

• Identify and act on opportunities to improve fraud tools, procedures, and efficiency.

• Communicate significant issues and updates to senior management.

• Monitor regulatory and industry developments related to fraud and digital currencies; interpret implications for the Bank.

• Research fraud risk issues, propose mitigation strategies, and develop actionable plans.

• Prepare reports and materials for committees, councils, and oversight meetings.

• Close regulatory, audit, or self-identified deficiencies; validate corrective actions.

• Conduct root cause analyses for complex fraud cases; perform data analysis and communicate findings.

• Assess new products and services for fraud risk exposure.

• Participate in fraud-related task forces, industry networking, and professional forums.

• Provide training and share best practices with peers and business units.

• Lead or contribute to special projects aimed at strengthening fraud defenses.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide constructive performance feedback to team members.

• Develop employees to their fullest potential and provide challenging growth opportunities.

• Ensure adequate succession planning and bench strength.

• Recognize and reward employee accomplishments.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

• 5+ years of fraud and/or banking operations experience.

• Strong expertise in fraud laws, regulations, and industry guidance.

• Advanced understanding of Fifth Third’s products, business lines, operations, and corporate support structure.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

• Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to interact at all levels.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment, logical reasoning, and critical thinking in decision-making.

• Awareness of emerging fraud risks in digital assets, crypto, and fintech environments.
