Mortgage Loan Consultant

Job Overview

• Responsible for originating residential first mortgage loans.

• Owns the process from application through closing.

• Meets loan sales goals and One Bank partnership objectives.

• Coaches and develops assigned Mortgage Loan Consultants.

• Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and risk management standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Build and maintain referral relationships (realtors, builders, personal/professional contacts).

• Train and mentor Mortgage Loan Consultants in sales behaviors, processing, underwriting, closing, and pricing procedures.

• Take and process loan applications (URLA) using bank systems and technology.

• Collect documentation and manage pipeline through closing.

• Provide timely communication and status updates to applicants and branches.

• Ensure excellent customer service and positive customer experience.

• Attend sales meetings, training, and participate in cross-business referrals.

• Follow escalation protocols and collect application fees as required.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

• 3–5 years’ mortgage loan origination experience (Fifth Third or similar institution).

• Top 25% in loan production or proven track record of performance preferred.

• Advanced proficiency with origination/lead generation tools (e.g., Total Expert).

• Knowledge of:

  • Conventional & government lending guidelines

  • Mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures

  • Federal real estate lending regulations

• Strong organizational, communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

• Computer proficiency and basic sales techniques.

• Must be S.A.F.E. Act registered with NMLS at time of hire.
