Position Overview

The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for the origination of residential first mortgage loans from external referrals. You will manage the mortgage loan process from application through closing, meeting sales targets and cross-selling objectives while delivering exceptional customer service.

You will also be accountable for managing risk in accordance with Fifth Third Bank's policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other professional and personal contacts.

• Maintain thorough knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage policies, procedures, and loan products.

• Stay current on processing procedures, underwriting guidelines, and departmental protocols.

• Escalate exceptions following defined protocols.

• Take and complete loan applications using the Fannie Mae Form 1003 on a laptop.

• Use technology to access rates, credit reports, automated underwriting responses, and transmit loans to processing.

• Collect necessary documentation from applicants and deliver complete loan packages within required timeframes.

• Manage your pipeline of loans through closing, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

• Communicate proactively with applicants and branches, providing regular updates on loan status.

• Deliver exceptional customer service by managing applicant and support staff expectations.

• Attend and actively participate in all required Consumer Lending meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Knowledge of conventional and/or government mortgage lending guidelines.

• Understanding of residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.

• Familiarity with federal regulations governing real estate lending.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Proven teamwork and customer service orientation.

• Competent computer skills.

• Basic sales techniques and a strong desire to succeed in a competitive environment.

• Must meet S.A.F.E. Act registration requirements at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
