Job Overview

The Portfolio Manager – Metals, Materials and Construction is responsible for the overall risk management, credit analysis, and relationship support of a portfolio of commercial banking clients within these industry sectors. The role ensures that client needs are met through well-structured financial solutions while safeguarding the Bank’s risk appetite and regulatory compliance. This position requires specialized knowledge of the metals, materials, and construction industries to effectively evaluate risks, identify opportunities, and deliver strategic insights.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor a diverse portfolio of commercial clients in the metals, materials, and construction sectors.

• Conduct in-depth credit analysis, including financial statement review, cash flow modeling, and collateral evaluation.

• Prepare and present credit memos, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior management and credit committees.

• Partner with Relationship Managers to structure credit facilities tailored to client needs while balancing risk-return considerations.

• Track industry and economic trends, identifying potential risks and growth opportunities affecting client portfolios.

• Ensure ongoing compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk management frameworks.

• Proactively identify early warning indicators and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

• Collaborate with internal partners (Treasury, Risk, Legal, etc.) to deliver holistic financial solutions to clients.

• Mentor junior credit analysts, providing guidance on credit underwriting and portfolio management best practices.

• Participate in client calls, site visits, and presentations to strengthen relationships and deepen industry expertise.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline, advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent) preferred.

• 5–8 years of experience in commercial credit, lending, or portfolio management, preferably with industry exposure to metals, materials, or construction.

• Proven ability to assess credit risk, structure transactions, and manage complex client relationships.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients and internal stakeholders.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial analysis software.

• Strong business acumen with an ability to interpret industry and market trends.

Working Conditions

• Normal office environment.

• Extended periods of computer screen usage.

• Occasional travel to client sites, industry events, or internal meetings may be required.
