Job Overview

The Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager II plays a critical role in managing a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, ensuring client satisfaction, portfolio growth, and adherence to the bank’s credit policies. This position is responsible for proactive monitoring, risk assessment, and oversight of commercial real estate lending activities. The role involves collaborating with Relationship Managers, Credit Analysts, and other stakeholders to optimize portfolio performance while maintaining compliance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.

The portfolio manager is accountable for risk management, ensuring that credit and operational risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated, while consistently delivering a positive customer experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, ensuring adherence to credit policies and risk guidelines.

• Review and analyze updated financial statements, property valuations, and market data to assess credit risk.

• Work closely with Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts to structure, negotiate, and approve commercial real estate loans.

• Monitor portfolio performance and recommend strategies to mitigate risk and maximize profitability.

• Prepare and deliver credit recommendations, risk rating analyses, and portfolio reports to management.

• Coordinate and document all portfolio decisions, including renewals, modifications, and restructures.

• Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on portfolio performance, loan covenants, and market trends.

• Participate in business development efforts to expand client relationships and identify new lending opportunities.

• Stay current on commercial real estate market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes.

• Serve as a mentor to junior portfolio managers and analysts, providing guidance and expertise.

• Collaborate with internal partners to ensure client needs are met across the bank’s full suite of services.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide coaching, guidance, and mentoring to junior team members and analysts as needed.

• Support talent development and succession planning initiatives within the portfolio management team.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

• Minimum of 5–7 years of commercial real estate lending, portfolio management, or credit analysis experience.

• Strong analytical skills, including financial modeling, risk assessment, and credit evaluation.

• Knowledge of commercial real estate markets, property types, and lending structures.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex information to clients and management.

• Professional presence and client-facing experience.

• Proven ability to manage complex portfolios and develop strategic recommendations.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant banking/loan management systems.

• Ability to travel locally and regionally as required.
