Senior Portfolio Manager – Financial Institutions

Job Overview

The Senior Portfolio Manager (PM) is a key member of the coverage team, responsible for managing transactions and business portfolio tasks. PMs are deeply involved in the deal process, providing recommendations on credit structures, pricing, and risk assessments. The role requires direct accountability for a portfolio of accounts, proactive monitoring, credit analysis, and client communication while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and the Bank’s risk appetite.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of accounts, including reviews of financial statements and risk ratings.

• Partner with Relationship Managers to:

  • Meet with clients and participate in business development calls.

  • Assess prospective clients’ credit viability.

  • Define borrowers, guarantors, deal structures, credit terms, and covenants.

• Generate and review commitment letters.

• Interpret and apply credit lending policies.

• Collaborate with Credit Analysts for portfolio monitoring, renewals, and modifications.

• Communicate directly with clients regarding credit events and actions.

• Independently pitch complex deal structures.

• Provide subject matter expertise and mentoring to junior PMs and Credit Analysts.

• Serve as a resource on bank lines of business, economics, and market dynamics.

• Special focus on insurance and non-bank financial institutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide candid and constructive feedback to employees.

• Support career development, succession planning, and bench strength.

• Recognize and reward employee contributions.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Business (Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration).

• 8+ years of credit analysis and/or loan review in Commercial Banking (Insurance experience strongly preferred).

• Proven expertise managing advanced commercial portfolios with complexity.

• Strong analytical, financial modeling, risk analysis, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and professional client-facing presence.

• Ability to partner with clients, RMs, and credit teams.

• Proficiency in technology and financial applications.

• Some travel required.

Compensation

• Base Salary Range: $94,500 – $203,200 USD annually

• Eligible for incentive compensation plan (based on company, business line, and individual performance).
