Yard Driver

Job Overview

The Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers and containers within the facility yard. This role ensures that trailers are properly staged, moved, and positioned to support warehouse, distribution, and transportation operations. The Yard Driver plays a critical role in maintaining smooth logistics flow and ensuring on-time shipments.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate yard trucks and equipment to move trailers within the yard and to dock doors.

• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition.

• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and yard assignments.

• Assist in organizing and staging trailers to maximize yard efficiency.

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and DOT standards.

• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and supervisors regarding trailer placement and priorities.

• Report any equipment defects, safety hazards, or operational issues promptly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Valid driver's license; CDL (Class A) preferred, depending on requirements.

• Previous experience as a yard driver, hostler, or similar role preferred.

• Knowledge of safety procedures, yard operations, and trailer handling.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
